A DNS error displayed on the screen of your PS 3 while accessing the PlayStation Home or other online applications is caused by a number of reasons. Generally, this is a common error for devices that connect to the Internet. Usually, it indicates minor issues on your PS 3 and needs a few basic networks troubleshooting to get it back online. And there is no need for you to worry or think that your console is dead because this error does not indicate a hardware failure. This issue usually lies either with the router you are using or with the PS 3 itself.

Most of the time, this issue is caused by faulty connections. Changing and making alterations to the said connections are needed to fix the PS 3 DNS error. This article talks about the various ways to help you address this problem quickly and easily without the need of taking your console to the Sony repair centre.

Here is a list of simple and easy fixes for the DNS error. So read on.

1. Reset your modem ( the device given by your Internet service provider).

Turn off the power of the modem where your PlayStation 3 is connected to.  Let it rest and wait for at least five minutes. Turn it back on. You should be able to go online using your PS 3 console. If it did not fix the issue, try to let rest for a longer time before turning it back on.

1. Access your router’s GUI (Graphical User Interface) to make some changes on its settings. Type your router’s IP address on the navigation bar of your computer’s web browser. Mostly, the routers’ IP address used is 192.168.1.1. After hitting on Enter on your keyboard, you will be routed to your router’s page. Type in your username and password. If it is the first time that you are accessing it, you don’t need to enter any information. Just click on the OK button and you will be routed right away to the router’s page. Look for the UPnP option on your router’s page and click on disable. Then click on “Apply”. After the changes took effect, you can then try accessing Internet with your PS 3.
2. Upgrade the firmware version of your PlayStation 3 console. You can find the latest updates of PS 3 firmware versions on the Internet. You can also log in to the Sony’s website and check for the latest firmware update. Connect a USB flash drive to your computer. Create a new folder in your flash drive. Name the folder with the word “GAME” for you to easily find it. Download the latest firmware update and save it to the new folder. Disconnect the USB flash drive from your computer and plug it into your PS 3 console. Access the drive through the GAME menu on the XMB main menu and install the saved latest firmware. After updating the firmware, you should be able to access the Internet.
3. Remove the router from your network set up and connect your PS 3 console directly to your modem. If your console will work with this connection, then the problem is with your router. Or you can also try connecting your console to a different router and see if the problem is with the router or probably the console has issues connecting to routers.
4. Try to disable the firewall on your computer. If the computer connected to your network set up has a firewall enabled, it can also cause DNS error on the PS 3 console.
