Like any other devices that produce sounds, the Sony PlayStation 3 console is also prone to audio problems which may create interruptions to your movie, gaming and music experience.  If this problem occurs in your PlayStation 3 console, you can try fixing it first before sending it over to Sony for replacement or repair. Usually, audio problems on a PS 3 console are not as serious as they appear.  Generally, it is caused by loose connections; poor set up, and damaged cables. Therefore, this issue is something that can be addressed on your own.

If your PS 3 console is working fine on all other areas but does not play sound, you can try the following troubleshooting fixes and methods before taking your PS 3 console to Sony’s repair centre.

1. Turn the power off on your PS 3 console.
2. Check for cables that look like damaged, worn, or frayed and replace them with new ones.
3. Check if the cables are connected firmly to the correct slot where it is supposed to be connected. You can also try disconnecting all the cables connected to your PS 3 console and re connect them all back in to make sure it is properly and correctly connected to the ports.
4. Place the console on standby mode by shutting it down. Press and hold the reset/power button on the PS 3 console until it turns on and goes back to the standby mode. Then turn the power on again on the console. This will change the audio and video settings on your PS 3 to default setting.
5. Adjust the console’s audio output settings manually by going to “Settings” on your PS 3 and choose “Sound Settings”.  Then choose “Audio Output Settings” and choose the type of audio connection that you are using. The types of audio connections for you to choose from are AV MULTI, SCART, Audio Input Connector, Optical Digital, and HDMI. Click on the “x” button on your controller to confirm your selection.
6. Adjust also the console’s audio input settings. Using the audio remote control, click on the Input button. It will do the changes of your PS 3 console’s audio input setting. Press and hold it until “digital” shows up on the audio receiver. Then try to play a media file to check if the issue is resolved or not.
7. If you are playing sound simultaneously through multiple connections, turn on the Audio Multi-Output in the Sound Settings of your PS 3 console.
8. Turn the power off on your PS 3 console and completely shut it down by disconnecting the power cord from the electrical wall outlet. Then connect a different audio cable to your PS 3 console.
9. Try connecting your PS 3 console to a different display and see if it works or not.

10. Check the remote control of your PS 3 if it is working properly or not. Replace the batteries on your remote control. Then try to use     it with your PS 3 console.

11. Check also if the audio/video sync setting is turned on.
